Burgas is a Bulgarian port on the Black Sea. It is the fourth largest city in Bulgaria, situated in the south-eastern part of the country. This city of almost 200-thousand inhabitants is famous both as an industrial center and as a tourist center. Burgas rivals Varna as the chief export port of Bulgaria and thus is an important commercial center. The name of the city has its origin from the Greek "Pirgos", then was changed by the Turks to "Burgos". Some say that the word "Pirgos" means "tower". To the south lies Sozopol, the oldest town on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. Sozopol is one of the most popular beach resorts, preferred for its casual ambience and ancient atmosphere..
Similar to its neighboring Black Sea city to the north, Varna, the jewel of Burgas is the park along the sea, a pleasant place for walks in the summer.
Hungarian airline Malev started scheduled seasonal flights to Burgas last summer. The service is run twice weekly using Boeing 737s.
Burgas is Malev's third destination in Bulgaria after Sofia and Varna. Launching the new flight servive to Burgas was justified by Malev's strong position in the region and increased demand for the service from Western Europe.
