On Street Maria Louisa, very near where the street passes beneath "Tsar Boris III Obedinetel", we found this tree full of eye-catching purple blossoms in late April. The "Royal Empress" (real name "Royal Paulownia") tree is named after the daughter of a Russian czar. Bulgaria's Tsar Boris was responsible for importing a large quantity of trees and shrubbery to Bulgaria during his reign. Many of these have been propogated in Plovdiv. Visit Bulgaria .... bring your camera!
