A blackthorn (Prunus spinosa) tree, known in Bulgaria as Sliva, or wild plum, has produced clusters of ripe fruit by early July. Varying in color from pinkish-yellow to red, the ripe fruit tastes much like an apricot, but children also enjoy the sour taste of the green immature fruit. It's a delight to reach up and take a small handful of the ripe plums to enjoy as a snack while you're walking down the street, Visit Bulgaria .... bring your camera!
