On Street Maria Louisa, very near where the street passes beneath "Tsar Boris III
Obedinetel", we found this tree full of eye-catching purple blossoms in late April.
The "Royal Empress" (real name "Royal Paulownia") tree is named after the daughter
of a Russian czar. Bulgaria's Tsar Boris was responsible for importing a large quantity of
trees and shrubbery to Bulgaria during his reign. Many of these have been propogated in Plovdiv. The cross atop St.Ludwig Roman Catholic Cathedral is seen in the background.
