House - Museum "Zlatu Boyadjiev"

Originally built as the home of Dr. Stoyan Chomakov, a prominent figure in the struggle for church and national independence, the house is now designated as a National Monument of Culture and was completed in 1860. The museum was dedicated on May 22, 1984. There are 76 paintings from both periods of the famous Plovdiv-born Bulgarian artist Zlatiju Boiadjiev (1903-1976) on permanent exposition on both floors of the house.

In earlier days, Prince Ferdinand purchased the home and had it restyled it as his Plovdiv palace. Today the interior remains richly decorated; the stairs and stained glass are impressive.

Archaeological Museum

The Archaeological museum in Plovdiv is one of the first Bulgarian cultural institutions, opened officially in 1882. It evolved from an archaeological-numismatic study during the final 20 years of the last century. Its funds contained initially a numismatic collection of 1500 coins, ethnographical and historical documents, church plates, incunabula from the VIII - XVII centuries, 300 icons and drawings of the Bulgarian painters Stanislav Dospevski, Ivan Lazarov, Tzanko Lavrenov, E. Rajnov, Zl. Boiadjiev etc.

The Archeological museum possesses one of the largest collections (100 000 exhibits) of human art connected with Plovdiv's history.

Ethnographic Museum

The Plovdiv Ethnographic Museum includes displays representative of the lifestyle of the working class and the wealthy over the ages. The museum is contained within the house of Agir Koyumdjioglu. The lavishly articulate facade makes a striking figure. The house is now designated as a National Monument of Culture. The "Royal House" as it was called, has 12 big rooms and about 130 windows. The most striking feature of the museum is the wooden ceiling carvings; a different motif is displayed in each room. On the second floor, one sees an ornate rosette spanning the entire breadth and width of the room. Public concerts of Chamber music are presented in the beautiful courtyard throughout the summer months.

Historical museum - Plovdiv

Historical Museum - Plovdiv was established in 1951 as a cultural and research institute for collecting, preservation and popularizing of the historical events from the past of Plovdiv and Plovdiv region for the 15th through 20th centuries.

Natural Science Museum

The museum was opened to the public in 1955. The building is the old building of Plovdiv municipality, built in 1880 year by the well-known architect Iosif Shniter. The museum is one of the most significant in Bulgaria, with notably large collections in sections Palaeontology, Mineralogy, and Botany. Space is also devoted to the animal world and in the basement is the larges freshwater aquarium in Bulgaria with 40 kinds of decorative fishes and a few amphibians. Especially valuable is the museum's collection of Rhodope minerals.

House musem- 'Lamartin'

The House of Lamartin contains a small museum while behind Nedkovitch House there are some craft workshop.

House museum- 'Balabanova'

The home was built at the beginning of the 19th century and is a model of Bulgarian renaissance architecture. On the first floor is a permanent exposition of contemporary paintings. The second floor is preserved with the original interior where the owner would entertain guests.

House museum- 'Georgiadi'

The house was built in 1848 by the Rhodopes master Haji George, and is one of the best models of the wide spread type of the Plovdiv "symmetrical house". The Museum of National Liberation is now housed in Georgiadi House, only a few steps from Plovdiv's reknown ancient gateway, "Hisar Kapia". The museum exhibits cover the early Ottoman period, with special attention given to the era of the National Revival.

House museum- 'Hristo G. Danov'

The house belonged to Hristo G. Danov, Bulgaria's first large scale publisher. In a building adjacent to the house is now the Museum of Bulgarian Printing, complete with Danov's first press.

Bulgarian Museum of Aviation

The museum is unique in Bulgaria and presents the history of Bulgaria's aviation, military and civilian. In its possession are 60 aircraft, 12 airplane engines and over 2 799 other museum units.

Located 15 km south of Plovdiv, near the airport.
Open from 08.00 to 16.00 every day Monday through Friday - the exposition in the open is open every day.
