Hristo G. Danov
is represented on the 50 Leva banknote issued in 1992. Danov, a
Plovdiv native, is widely recognized as one of the first publishers
in the period of the Bulgarian Renaissance.
Beacuse of Danov's
efforts, a great many books and textbooks became available to a
larger part of the Bulgarian population; he is remembered as "the
father of Bulgarian printing."
The image on the reverse of that 1992 banknote depicts Danov's 1885
printing press, the first in Bulgaria. Official circulation of the
Danov banknote was ended in 1999 when Bulgaria changed to a new
currency.
