Novoselo Uprising monument in Apriltsi. The freedom-loving Balkan mountain dwellers took part in the April Uprising of 1876, whic is more commonly known in this area as the Novoselo Uprising. The Republic of Novoselo was proclaimed and for nine days the rebels heroically defended against the enemy, who outnumbered them greatly. The historical Novo Selo Monastery (in the eastern part of Apriltsi's Novo Selo Quarter) was plundered and destroyed by fire during the Uprising.
