The following day, the governor returned to find a feast being set up under the arches which were clear of the water. Ficheto, his wife and children, his assistants and friends celebrated while people from the town passed over the bridge with the heaviest carts and horses they could find. Dis-satisfied, the governor ordered his troops to test the bridge with their heavy military wagons.
Underneath, the feast continued all day, until at last the governor himself dared to cross Kolyu Ficheto's new bridge. |
